What is digital restoration?

Most vintage advertisements and sales materials were published with many flaws such as spots, artifacts, lines, punched holes, uneven text, uneven borders, faded colors, page folds, stuck on labels, bleeding text, wrinkles etc. Removing these flaws is a very time-consuming process and often must be done one pixel at a time. This can take many hours of work with editing software. Most ads were pretty much fully restored, meaning the entire page was gone over. Some were partially restored meaning some minor flaws that indicate age remain for a "retro" look. The goal was to produce an ad that would display nicely in a frame.
